Steven Wolf Fine Arts will look back on its first five years in the business of selling contemporary art, and—by coincidence—fill a gaping hole in the schedule left open by an under-performing director, with a small survey of work from its first 60 shows. Many of the gallery’s now familiar obsessions will be on display: fakes and forgeries, pornography, drawn words, counterfeit science, retrograde thoughts, outsiders, narcissism and the ghosts of modernism past. Molly Springfield, Stephan Pascher, Tim Sullivan, Dustin Fosnot, Tami Demaree, Jacob Dahlgren and Richard Pettibone are just a few of the artists included.
The show will also be the occasion for the gallery to introduce two new features: A shopper-friendly on-line bookstore, from which readers can now directly buy books and catalogues published by the gallery and by the artists and curators who work there; and an under-researched, overwritten blog by Steven, in which our erstwhile director squints at the world through his magic eye and creatively misreads what he sees.
